Leading tertiary education provider Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS) saw yet another batch of gifted graduates pass out its doors and head to Australia, USA or Malaysia to commence the second year of their degrees, after the institute staged its 5th graduation ceremony on  October 23 at Hotel Galadari.

The 405 students felicitated at the event represented those who had successfully completed the foundation diploma in business, science/engineering and those who had secured a UniLink diploma in business, information technology, health science or engineering.

This year’s occasion was made additionally memorable by the fact that it hosted the inaugural batch of students from NCHS Kandy and USA Degree Transfer Programme.

All of these programmes offered by NCHS are provided in partnership with the global leaders in education, California State Universities and our exclusive partner, Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), guaranteeing a high-quality and strictly regulated standard of education.

“I came to NCHS hardly knowing anything about engineering, but our lecturers gave us the whole picture. And not just by teaching subjects, but also by sharing with us what it is really like out there in the world, what it means to be a successful engineer.

I would like to thank you all on behalf of my fellow graduates. Thank you for all the time you spent with us and for all the life lessons,” said engineering student Ashwin Seneviratne, while speaking at the occasion.

Seneviratne went on to implore all his fellow batch members to stay in contact with each other through NCHS’ alumni association and their respective social media channels.

Following the graduation ceremony, all of these undergraduates will continue pursuing their relevant degrees in either Australia, USA or Malaysia in February 2020.

Apart from the students and their families, NCHS’ chairman, directors and staff, along with several faculty members from the SUT, were present at the graduation.

The event’s Chief Guest High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka, David Holly, congratulated each of the event’s graduates and reflected on the significance of the moment.

“I applaud you for choosing an Australian education – we pride ourselves on delivering work-ready qualifications. In this regard, I wish to congratulate the Nawaloka College of Higher Studies in Sri Lanka and its partner in Australia, the Swinburne University of Technology. Graduates, this is only the beginning. May the next chapters in your life bring you professional and personal success and satisfaction,” he said.

Meanwhile, ceremony’s Special Guest and Keynote Speaker SUT Innovation and Change Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Sarah Maddison, congratulating the outgoing batch, said: “This day marks a culmination of your hard work, effort and determination. Swinburne’s vision is to be a world-class university creating social and economic impact through science, technology and innovation, and you are now part of that vision.

I know that your experience at the Nawaloka College of Higher Studies has set you up to be lifelong learners.”

SUT International Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Monica Kennedy, who addressed those gathered in the capacity of the day’s Presiding Officer, thanked the students’ families for their continual support before outlining what lay ahead for each new graduate.

“You should consider your graduation as just one step in a lifelong journey of friendship and learning. Graduates, on your behalf, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the academic and support staff for their contribution to your education at Nawaloka College of Higher Studies,” she stated.

NCHS is located in the heart of Colombo and provides students with world-class facilities, including purpose-built engineering and computer laboratories as well as a resource-rich library.

NCHS’ Kandy campus provides students from the area with access to a conveniently located academic platform along with experienced academic staff and cutting-edge technological facilities that allow them to competently pursue their preferred academic discipline.

The campus also offers additional support by providing students with relevant information and facilitating all of their administrative and VISA requirements.
