The Department of Registration of Persons (DRP), in agreement with the Examination Department, has decided to issue temporary identity cards for Ordinary Level students, to enable them sit their practical exams next week.

This follows the DRP experiencing a paper shortage to print the National Identity Cards (NIC).

DRP Commissioner Viyani Gunatilake said that there has been a big demand for NICs, both from the public and 2019 Ordinary Level candidates.

However, he said the DRP has already issued 75% of the candidates’ NICs. The rest will be issued before the theory exams in December 2019.

“We have ordered for 1 million units of the paper and will receive it by next week,” he said. – CC
