A sum of Rs 1,340 million has been paid to students across the country, under the ‘Suraksha’ insurance scheme, the Ministry of Education (MoE) claimed last week.

Accordingly, Insurance agent Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd had received around 29,000 claims from students, as of August 2019.

The Suraksha scheme gives health, accident, and life cover to around 4.5 million students between the age of 5-21 years, in around 10,000 schools in the country.

This covers government schools, government approved private schools, the pirivena schools and special education institutions. - CC
