Grades 2-4 and 6-10: MoE issues new admission rules

View(s):

Except for Grades 1, 5 and 11, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has issued a fresh Circular on the criteria to admit students to National Schools for all other Grades, which the principals have been directed to adhere strictly.

The circular has been issued in view of principals violating previous circulars on admission of students to Grades 2-4 and 6-10.

Under the new circular, principals can admit students only on the grounds that, if the parents have returned to the country after a diplomatic posting, if the parents have been transferred to an area over 50 km away and due to a permanent change of residency.

If there are vacancies, after admitting students under the aforesaid 3 categories, the Circular permits admissions to Grade 2. Further, if a sibling of an applicant is attending the same school, his/her applications could be considered.

Earlier, Principals were admitting children to Grades 2-4 and 6-10 on parents requests, if the student’s results were good and other methods.

Once a student is admitted, the principal seeks approval from the Education authorities, for the admission.

However, recent audit reports reveal that it is a malpractice, prompting the MoE to issue the new Circular.

The MoE intends to publish some 44,658 names of students who will be admitted to Grades other than 1,5, and 10.
