EDEX Mid-Year Expo 2019 Celebrates 16years of Excellence in Educational and Career Guidance

The annual EDEX Mid-Year Expo and Job Fair 2019, the much looked forward event catering to all Sri Lankan youth wishing to pursue higher education or contemplating their career choice, is set to be held from 07th to 08th September 2019 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC).

The official press conference launching the event took place on Tuesday, 27th August at the Royal College Skills Centre in Colombo 07. The EDEX Mid-Year Expo will be graced by Chief Guest, H. E. Akira Sugiyama, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka and Guest of Honour, Prof.Lakshman R Watawala, President of CMA Sri Lanka.

Marking the 16th consecutive year, EDEX EXPO, over the years has become a household name for youth when deciding their next step in pursuing higher education and career choices.

With over 7,000 students from public, private and international schools expected to attend this year’s event, the two-day EDEX Mid-Year Expo will pave the way for interested youth to find first-rate study prospects, internships or even their dream job. In addition, school leavers, students from Sri Lankan public and private universities and job seekers are expectedto visit the exhibition in search for local and international educational courses and prospective employment opportunities.

The exhibition will also facilitate spot admissions to selected academic, vocational, technical and professional courses and postgraduate programmes offered by both local and foreign educational institutions.

EDEX Mid-year Expo 2019 will encompass a platform of local and global convergence of key post-secondary educational stakeholders, who will comprise of over 150 education exhibition booths, representing local and foreign universities.

The Expo will continue to also feature a job fair, a career guidance centre as well as give host to its community based projects under the banners of EDEX Nena Pahana and EDEX Think Green.

EDEX Chairman, Mahinda Galagedara stated, “The Edex exhibition explicitly reflects the importance of higher education opportunities for students, consequent to their school career. Since our commencement in the year 2004, EDEX has assisted thousands of youth island-wide to strive to be competitive in their respective education and training fields.

EDEX also drives local youth to attempt entrepreneurship and generate employment to a large expanse of job seekers. The primary objective of this education exhibition and job fair is to raise awareness and expose anticipating youth to the existing local and international educational and career opportunities.”

“This year’s exhibition promises to bring forth an exceptional experience to all participants and an all-inclusive platform offering choices and options in realizing opportunities when transitioning from school to work, with over 70 sought after brand names in the educational sector in attendance.  Most of the participant institutions offer discounted course fees, full or partial scholarships and many other such prospects with financial support options,” he further commented.

The EDEX Job Fair, while living up to its name and fulfilling its mandate as a platform for job seekers; from young school leavers and undergraduates to those who are already employed and looking for a career change, will also assist in launching new chapters in their lives and careers.

It also serves as an opportunity for both students and young school leavers to get a glimpse into the corporate world. . Job seekers can also visit www.edexcareers.lkand upload their CVs online. On the other hand, the Psychometric Testing Centre, in collaboration with the National Career Guidance Association (NCGA) will provide youth with the relevant direction and guide them towards choosing the right career path.

The National Cleaner Production Centre Sri Lanka (NCPC) will partner with EDEX Think Green in introducing sustainability related training and accreditation programmes conducted by them that are targeted for young professionals and recent graduates. The visitors will be able to explore new specializations and career pathways in sustainability and management. NCPC is a non-profit organization under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce which aims to assist enterprises in adopting cleaner and sustainable production.

They provide a range of services such as Training and Accreditation, Capacity Building, Consultancy and Auditing aimed at this purpose. Training programmes conducted by them cover a broad range of topics such as Energy Management, Energy Auditing, Consultant Training, Corporate Environmental Sustainability, Health & Safety and Waste Management.
