CA Sri Lanka, South Eastern University signs MoU to strengthen accountancy education

In an effort aimed at promoting and nurturing accounting education, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the South Eastern University entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently to enhance accountancy related education across the country.

Najim in the presence of CA Sri Lanka’s Secretary Mr. Prasanna Liyanage, Adviser - Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Nagalingam Nagendrakumar, Dean - Faculty of Management & Commerce Dr. S Gunapalan, Head of the Department of Accounting Prof. A. Jahfer and other officials.

On behalf of CA Sri Lanka, the agreement was signed by the Institute President Mr. Jagath Perera and Secretary Mr. Prasanna Liyanage, while Vice Chancellor of the South Eastern University Prof. M. M. M. Najim and Dean – Faculty of Management & Commerce Dr. S Gunapalan signed the MoU on behalf of the university.

The agreement will pave way for both CA Sri Lanka and the Department of Accountancy and Finance of the South Eastern University to jointly undertake research work in relation to the accounting discipline.

Through the MoU, CA Sri Lanka will also offer scholarships to undergraduates of the university to follow the CA professional programme and will also recognize the most outstanding accounting student with a gold medal at the university’s annual convocation.

CA Sri Lanka and the university will also consult either party during the process of revising the curriculum of each other’s course and introduce changes where necessary to ensure the study programme is in line with local and international standards. Both bodies will also jointly organise forums for the benefit of students and the general public on pertinent areas and will explore the possibility of offering postgraduate degree programmes, apart from engaging lecturers for various workshops and seminars.

CA Sri Lanka’s Adviser – Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Nagalingam Nagendrakumar and the university’s Head of the Department of Accounting Prof. A. Jahfer were among those present at the signing ceremony.
