Twenty-four Volunteer Teachers (VT) who have been denied permanent positions in the Eastern Education sector, are appealing to the Eastern Province (EP) Governor, that they be absorbed into the mainstream of teachers.

In a letter to the Board of Appeal (BoA) for VTs, the teachers said that, though their names appear in the list of 811 names published by the BoA, they were not given appointments on June 7, 2019. This, they said, was despite facing the interview on April 2018 and submitting relevant documents to support their Volunteer work in the schools.

The BoA heard the appeals of the 24 VTs on May 30 and June 7, 2019 at the EPC Secretariat, .

It is learned that only 739 VTs have been granted permanent appointments from the list.

The aggrieved VTs said they were disappointed with the Government’s decision to withhold their appointments.

“We hoped we would be given permanent appointments on the same day as the others. We are mentally and socially affected,” they said.   - CC
