Ranga brings glory with ‘Silence’

Experienced teledrama director and television producer Ranga Bandaranayake recently won the Best award for his creation “The Silence” in one of the catagories at the XXI International Festival of Detective Films and Television programs on Law-Enforcement Themes “DetectiveFEST”, in Moscow.

Ranga won the top award in the category of “Civil society” – devoted to fight for civil rights at the festival held from April 22 to 28.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the festival is organized by the Moscow branch of the International Police Association. At this International films and TV production festival, under 12 categories, 1,218 films and TV productions from 78 countries competed. DetectiveFEST featured full-length and short films, documentary films and TV series, animation films produced by film and TV companies. Six productions from Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) represented the country in three competitive categories at the festival.

Short films ‘Shadows’, directed by Athula Peiris, and ‘Pots of Milk’, directed by Bandaranayake were nominated under the category of Anti terrorist and detective themes.

‘A Taste of Ceylon Tea’, directed by Shiran Ratnayake, and ‘The Silence’, competed under the “Civil society”. ‘The Swallow Nest Racket’ and ‘The Elephant Story’, directed by Nishadi Ruwanmalie who also Ranga’s wife competed under the “Environmental crimes-the fight against crimes in the field of ecology category. After Russia, Sri Lankan nominees received second highest number of awards at this festival.
