Education Trade Unions Collective at a discussion last week with the Hatton Education Zone (HEZ) authorities called for the cancellation of transfers served on 200 teachers in the HEZ.

A letter handed over to Zonal Director, P. Sridharan, on April 4, requested cancellation of all transfer orders served on teachers, with the teachers returning to the schools they were serving in, until such time the Transfer Board (TB) takes a decision on the matter, as the transfers had been issued without the consent of the TB. According to TB Circular No. 2007/20, all teacher transfers must be with TB approval.
The HEZ Office maintains that most of the teachers transferred were extra teachers in the schools.

Earlier, Mr. Sridharan has also been charged of transferring 31 Principals and Vice Principals of schools to other schools, in violation of Circular No. 2014/16/14, according to which only the Provincial Education Ministry has the power to transfer Principals.
