Sokians take control over hapless Devans
The 52nd Battle of the Blues of Ambalangoda between Dharmasoka and Sri Devananda has created the much needed excitement for the second day today, as Dharmasoka gained a 95-run advantage at the end of first day’s play at the De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa yesterday.
Dharmasoka were bowled out for 201 runs after being put into bat, as Shanula Shamin struck 75 to help his team reach a respectable total. Sasindu Malshan remained unbeaten on 31 when Dharmasoka ended their essay while Shamindu Anushka claimed five wickets to spearhead the Devananda bowling attack. Divindu de Silva and Chamika Perera claimed two wickets each.
Despite keeping their heads high on the positivity of bowling a much stronger outfit, Sri Devananda failed to capitalize on what they gained. Dharmasoka bowlers made them to fight for runs, while dispatching a tight attack on their opponents. They were struggling at 80-6 at one stage, despite a captain’s knock of 44 by Sohan de Livera. Mithila Fernando remained unbeaten on 22 while left-arm spinner Akila Mendis snatched four wickets to bundle out the struggling Sri Devananda side for 106. Mendis, even sat on a hat-trick and finished off with impressive figures of 4 for 7. Kavindu Nadeeshan picked three wickets while Dinuka Dilshan picked two early wickets. The match ends today.
