St. Anthony’s College rallied around to beat Zahira College 27-21 in their Inter-Schools Under-19 League Rugby Tournament fixture worked off at Maradana yesterday.

The Antonians who were trailing 7-9 at half time came back magnificently in the second half while collecting their points from two goals, two tries and one penalty.

Even then, Zahira despite the heavy odds against them made a splendid effort to make a match of it before going down fighting having responded with one goal, a try and three penalties.

St. Anthony’s of course, completely dominated the second half as they put themselves in contention for a massive victory having extended their lead to a commanding 24-9 at one stage.

However, in a dramatic turn of events Zahira got their act together well and managed to score back-to-back tries which brought the game alive.

The Antonians almost paid the penalty for underestimating their opponents as they went through some anxious moments before eventually coming out winners 27-21.

This was also the first win for the Antonians after four unsuccessful attempts while Zahira are still searching for their first victory in the tournament.
