Do AL students follow the wrong combination of subjects?

View(s):

Analysis of the GCE Advanced Level exam results have raised questions whether students follow the wrong combination of subjects for the A/L stream.
The latest analysis shows that about 20,000 students failed in all 3 subjects, while 18,000 failed in 2 subjects, and another 20,000 failed in 1.
Exams Commissioner General Sanath Pujitha said the analysis raises questions on the number of students failing in all 3 subjects.

“Therefore, we will be consider maintaining high standards for the ‘A’ and ‘B’ grade for subjects such as Maths and Science at the O/L, in order to ensure that only students who could actually follow the respective subjects should enter the relevant A/L streams,” he said. He said that, Paper II on Maths and Science too would be prepared in a manner that the students could give analytical answers to the questions. He said, however, Paper I would be easy. – DW
