If you have an avid interest in helping others, and you want to pursue a career as a psychologist, counselor, or a therapist, getting a psychology degree may be the ideal solution for your future life path.

Psychology graduates gain an impressive range of skills that make them highly employable. Employers need people with communication skills; the ability to collect, organize, analyze and interpret data; and an understanding of human behavior. Psychology graduates acquire diverse knowledge and a remarkable range of skills that make them highly employable across an enviable range of professions that offer real prospects. Psychology programmes  deliver skills that employers value, such as numerical skills, the ability to understand and work with statistics, effective communication and the ability to work productively in teams – and these give students a real edge when competing with graduates from other disciplines. Most of our undergraduate students have moved onto careers in advertising, career counselling, education, the health professions, human resources, management and social services with NGOs. Moreover,

our postgraduate students have progressed into careers in professional areas of psychology, such as forensic psychology, clinical psychology, child psychology and business psychology.

It is the combination of skills and the nature of the discipline itself that not only supports the recent growth in the number of students studying psychology at university but also assures its continuing relevance in the global marketplace. Careers for psychology graduates are going to be on the broader canvas than for other, more vocationally trained, graduates, as psychology is an education that prepares people to acquire skills that can be applied to an infinite range of activities. Apart from careers in psychology, psychology can be applied to anything that involves people.

Students who aspire to be a chartered psychologist need to obtain a Master’s degree and specific training based on their area of specialization.

Psychology students often gain extra work experience and further study, which enhance their employability. Most of the undergraduate programmes in psychology contain a compulsory placement module. This module provides students the opportunity to gain get useful work experience in a field of their choice (clinical, organizational, education, neuropsychology, forensic, health, sport and so on). Students then continue to build on this valuable exposure when they leave university. These experiences would certainly enhance their employability.
