The Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayaka this week ordered that investigations related to former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayaka giving false evidence to the Bond Commission, could proceed, though, at this stage he cannot be named as a suspect, as investigations were still in progress. Accordingly, the Chief Magistrate granted permission to the CID to proceed with the investigations and submit a report to courts on the next date.

The CID had obtained permission from the courts to carry out investigation against Mr Karunanayaka, his Co. and his daughter, as it appeared that he had provided false evidence to the Bond Commission, but Counsel for Mr Karunanayake’s Co. objected that, granting such permission would be contrary to Law and accordingly, court ordered to suspend investigations.
