Provincial authorities ‘empowered’ on School closures
View(s):Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has decided to allow Provincial authorities as well as Zonal Education Directors (ZED) to close schools due to the prevailing inclement weather, at their discretion. Hence, Principals of schools in affected areas have been directed to contact the Provincial Education offices or the ZEDs in this regard and act in the best interests of the students and staff members.
The Minister said that prompt action must be taken to ensure the safety of students affected by the inclement weather and hence, this should be decided in the shortest possible time. - DW
