Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue over most parts of the island for the next 24 hours, the Meteorology Department warned in a special advisory last night.
It said the inclement weather was caused by the low pressure system developing in the Arabian sea to the west of Sri Lanka and as a result the showery conditions were likely to enhance all over the island today.

“Showers or thunder showers will occur in most parts of the island with heavy rain of up to 150 mm expected in the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Northwestern and Western provinces.
The North-Central and Southern provinces along with Mannar and Vauvuniya districts in the North are also expected to experience heavy rain of up to 100 mm. The Met Department warned the Navy and fishing communities to be vigilant in the next 24 hours.
