Overall Girls' champion Walala A. Ratnayake Central

St. Peter’s College Colombo and Walala A. Ratnayake Central College emerged overall champions in the Boy’s and Girls’ categories respectively at the 88th Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletic Championship 2018 ended at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo last week.

Continuing their success from the recently concluded Relay Carnival, St. Peter’s College athletes stunned top contenders and favourites to emerge champions in the Boy’s category with a whopping tally of 206 points. They dethroned 2017 champions Maris Stella College Negombo, who eventually ended up as runners-up with 115 points. Royal College Colombo finished overall third with 107 points.

In the Girls’ category, Walala A. Ratnayake Central athletes defended their throne with an overwhelming performance as they collected 204 points to win the title. Gateway International School Colombo finished overall runners-up, but they were way behind the champions in points. Gateway collected 95 points. Sumana Balika Vidyalaya Ratnapura finished overall third with 81 points.

Over 15,000 young athletes participated in track and field events at the 88th Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Athletics Championship 2018, which was held from September 19 to 21 in Colombo. The Senior Athletics Meet was conducted under three age groups — Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20.

Following this the Junior Athletics Meet has been scheduled from October 17 to 19 at the National Stadium in Anuradhapura and will be conducted under four age groups — Under-12, Under-13, Under-14 and Under-15.

Athletes who qualified from the three regional meets held at Hanwella, Bogambara and Polonnaruwa will participate in the finals of the Junior Championship.
