S. Thomas’ College emerged champions of the National Schools Games Under-20 T20 Cricket Tournament 2018 for the first occasion, when they defeated Mahinda College by 8 wickets in the final played at the Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala.

The match was played last Sunday as part of the National Schools Games in cricket, as Mahinda won the toss and elected to bat. The team from Galle posted 128 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, but the boys from Mt. Lavinia reached the winning target losing just two wickets and with 28 deliveries to spare.

For Mahinda, Vinuja Dulsara and Sandev Induwara made identical knocks of 25 runs each while Lahiru Bhashana chipped in with 22 runs. Left-arm paceman Kalana Perera and Dulith Gunaratne claimed two wickets each.

In their run chase Dulith Gunaratne returned to hit an unbeaten knock of 76 to guide his team to an emphatic win. Dilkin Ratnayake contributed with a brilliant knock of 41 runs as the Thomians emerged National Schools Twenty20 Cricket champions for the first time.
