An Information & Technology Training Centre, built at a cost of Rs 6.1 million, where schoolchildren could access the Computer for two hours a day, for a nominal membership fee, anytime of the week, was opened recently in Getambe, Kandy, by Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayakwe.

Presently, students of 11 selected schools are eligible to access the computers, on registration for an annual membership fee of Rs 200.Instructor-in-Charge of the Center, Indika Aturuliyage, said the student has to choose the day he is using the computer at the Center. “Each student enters the card issued to him/her, he/she to access the computer, while the respective parents too would be automatically informed of his/her arrival at the Centre. When he/she has completed his/her task and purpose, and leaves, a message would automatically be transmitted to his/her parent of their departure from the Center,” said Mr Aturuliyage. ” It is for the security of the child,” he added.

At the end of the 3-month Course, they would be issued a Diploma. The Central Province Economic Development would also be paying a percentage oftheir Computer course.

Among those present at the opening of the Centre were the Chief Secretary M.S. Premawansa, and Minister Ediriweera Sarathchandra. - L.B. Senaratne
