Runner-up: All-Island Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2018, Winner: Best All-Rounder, and Runner-up: Best Bowler, Savindu Peiris, Skipper of Prince of Wales College, was the toast of Moratuwa, not to mention his alma mater.

A 4th-year Coloursman, Savindu led the school with great success to reach the semifinals of the Schools Knockout tournament, including 5 outright wins this season.

An all-rounder par excellence, Savindu became the first bowler in the century-old school to capture 100 wickets with his crafty off-spinners. that includes a wide range of variations. His contributions with the bat too was a noteworthy 600 runs. This elegant left-hander with sound technique and remarkable eye-hand coordination is any bowlers nightmare.

A cricketer who won the hearts of his school administrators, his teammates and cricket loving public for his gentle manners on and off the field. As the Captain he led by example from the front and was a source of inspiration to his team. Never afraid to take up a challenge, his bold approach to the game is an object lesson in leadership.

A strict disciplinarian Savindu plays in the highest traditions of the game. Speaking to the Sunday Times, Savindu, grinning broadly, said “The triple awards he has won at the Dialog 4G- The Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer contest, he owes it to the school for their guidance and encouragement. Discipline is the main requirement, along with dedication and commitment, which is sure to take every cricketer far in hiss career.”

Looking back on his cricketing career at Prince of Wales College, has made him an upright citizen of tomorrow. This lad’s ambition is to play for the country as an all-round cricketer, and bring honour to his school and country.
