A quick-fire knock of 110 in 100 balls inclusive of 11 boundaries and three sixes by Shehan Jayasuriya and 87 off 90 balls with ten boundaries by Chamara Silva laid the foundation for Team Colombo to record an easy 58-run win over Team Kandy in their second round match of the Super Four Provincial limited tournament played at R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Team Colombo — the defending champions taking first lease of the wicket posted a formidable score of 299 and then restricted their opponents to a score of 241 to record their second successive win of the tournament.

Jayasuriya and Silva put on a valuable 165 runs for the fourth wicket when the side was in a spot of bother with the score on 63 for 3 in the 13th over. However the other batsmen failed to make any impression. From a healthy position of 228 for 4, they were bowled out for 299 with the remaining six wickets falling for the addition of 71 runs.

Two good stands for Team Kandy with openers Niroshan Dickwella and Pathum Nissanka adding 68 runs and later 99 runs for the third wicket between Mahela Udawatte (71) and skipper Angelo Mathews (27) was not sufficient. The separation of the duo saw Team Kandy falling back as no significant partnerships followed as from 226 for 4 they lost their remaining six wickets for just 16 runs. They were bowled out for 241 runs.

Skipper Tharanga steers Team Galle to first win

Team Galle skipper Upul Tharanga slammed 86 in 79 balls (which comprised 11 boundaries and associated in an 84 run stand for the third wicket with Roshen Silva) to steer them to an 11-run win on the Duckworth/Lewis system against Team Dambulla at the CCC ground.

The match was stopped due to bad light when the score was on 250 for the loss of 8 wickets in 46 overs. At that stage required par score was 240 runs.

Ashan Priyanjan

Earlier in the day Ashan Priyanjan and Milinda Siriwardena came to the rescue of Team Dambulla. Ashan cracked 101 in 120 balls that included six boundaries and four sixes as he along with Milinda who chipped in with a 45 associated in a valuable partnership of 92 runs for the fifth wicket when they were struggling on 52 for 4.
