Hundreds of oarsmen and oarswomen will be seen in action at the 33rd Sri Lanka National Rowing Championship from April 20-22, at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre (DRC).

The  championship will be conducted under 3 categories- Under-18, Over-18 and Open and will serve to select the National pool for international competitions.

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) are the current holders of the Jerry Silva Trophy winning the overall title, when they won the Men’s Open and and finished strongly in the Women’s categories. Sri Lanka Army are the defending Women’s Open champions and holders of the Deva Henry Trophy.

Royal College are the current Over-18 Boys champs, and holders of the Major Percy Fernando Trophy, while SLN will defend their Over-18 Girls’ title and the J.M. Perera Trophy.

In the Under-18 categories Ananda College are defending Boy’s champs and will fight hard to retain the Ernie Wijesinghe Trophy, while Ladies’ College will be eager to retain the Girls’ championship as well as keep the Flippers Trophy or the Rohan Fernando Trophy.

Last year, for the first time, Eight boats were in the fray in a couple of exhibition duels, where Royal College beat S. Thomas’ College and Kothalawala Defence University to win the Men’s race, while Musaeus College outrowed Ladies’ College and Bishops College to win the Women’s race. The 3-day event is organised and conducted by the Amateur Rowing Association of
Sri Lanka.
