Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) won their first Baseball championship when they defeated Sri Lanka Army (SLA) 14-6 in the finals of the Singer Cup Sri Lanka Baseball Championship 2018, concluded at the Sri Lanka-Japan Friendship Baseball Grounds, Diyagama last Sunday.

The seamen were unbeaten throughout the preliminary rounds and lived up to their reputation to emerge worthy champions.

In the second semifinal played in the morning Old Anandians were outplayed by the SLA in every department of the game, and finished 3rd.

In the Ladies match, SLA scored a thrilling 6-5 win over SLN.

Ms Hiroko Yamda from the World Baseball Federation witnessed the day’s proceedings and was very impressed withthe skills of our ladies, and confirmed she will be sending 2 players and 2 professional level Lady coaches to develop Ladies Baseball in the island.

Baseball Association President Fazil Hussain along with Singer Sri Lanka Senior Promotion Manager K.D.S. Kanishka, jointly awarded the Singer Trophy to the SLN.

  •  Best Batter: Aruna Shantha (SLN)
  •  Best Fielder: Sameera Ratnayake (SLA)
  •  Best Pitcher: Tharindu Madumal (SLN)
  •  Man of the Finals: G.N.R. Kumara (SLN)
  •  Most Valuable Player: Abeyrathna (SLA)
