Pedro Tea Estate manager makes police complaint against squatters

A police complaint has been filed against a group of squatters who have illegally occupied land belonging to the Pedro Tea Estate in Nuwara Eliya soon after the Local Government Election.  The squatters who had moved into a section of the tea estate and erected temporary sheds are refusing to leave.

Estate Manager Anura Senanayake had lodged a complaint with the Nuwara Eliya Police on Friday stating that the move was a deliberate attempt by some elements to acquire lands inside the tea estate, given the value of the land owing to the estate’s close proximity to Nuwara Eliya town.

While the estate is being managed by a company, the lands belong to the state and the complaint was made in order to protect state land, he had said in his complaint. Nuwara Eliya Police will summon both parties today (25) to inquire into the matter.
