Like the tale of two cities, these contrasting pictures show the plight of our paddy farmers. In Puttalam (above), hit by a drought, a farmer is seen allowing his cattle to eat the paddy plants because there is no rain. The other picture (top) at Trincomalee, paddy millers are seen loading their lorries with rice bought at a cheap rate from hardworking farmers who have been thrown into mudholes because of lopsided policies.
