Chilaw Marians has put themselves in line to clinch the Premier Tier A league title. The Negombo lads were in a strong position against SSC when play ended on day three in the match played at the CCC ground.

The two teams are battling for the 2017/18 league title and with only one day left. The Marians are almost assured of bagging the title as they have a mammoth lead of 539 runs. SSC if they are to prevent the Marians winning the title they will have to reach the target of 540 runs today.

The third day proceedings saw allrounder Shehan Jayasuriya continuing his form.  Jayasuriya, who made a ton in the first inning, followed it with a four wicket haul. Then he made another superb knock of 88 runs in the second innings whilst putting on two useful partnerships that of 71 runs for the second wicket with Oshada Fernando and a 68-run for the third wicket with Sachithra Serasinghe.

This was followed with Rukshan Fernando and Risith Upamal adding 132 runs for the fifth wicket for Chilaw Marians to end their making a formidable score of 399 runs and to put them on the box seat.

NCC outclassed Colts CC by an innings and 143 runs in the match which ended at the Galle Stadium. The third day’s play saw Colts CC struggling for survival as they had the daunting task of erasing a further 492 runs and resuming from their overnight score of 29 for 2 they went into lunch on 144 for 4 before being bowled out for 348 runs.

NCC amassed 618 for 9 declared which came on the back of tons made by Lahiru Udara, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Mahela Udawatte and skipper Angelo Perera.

SLPA CC came back with vengeance after having conceded a first inning lead to Saracens SC to chalk up a comfortable 6-wicket win in the match concluded at the SSC ground.

The hero of SLPA CC’s win was Englishman Nick Compton who cracked a ton in the first innings and then missed out on a second in the side’s run chase of 210 runs. Nick put on a valuable 122 runs for the third wicket with Ishan Rangana paving the way for SLPA CC’s victory.
