Sir Paul McCartney ended 2017 on a top note as his One On One tour was named as the highest grossing tour of 2017.The 75 year old veteran performed 37 shows between April and December and earned $132 million. Reports says 907,610 fans attended Sir Paul perform in 2017. Meanwhile the ex-Beatle took time off to spend the Christmas holidays with his wife Nancy, children and grandchildren on the West Indian island of St. Barts on 27th December.

Shakira has damaged her vocals chords and will require a longer break than was expected. The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker had to pull out of her El Dorado tour for the second time after it became apparent her voice needed healing. The tour was postponed from November to January, but now Shakira has postponed the tour further until June 2018.

Ringo Starr the 77 year old Beatle and Barry Gibb 71 the only surviving member of the Bee Gees have both been made Knight Bachelors in the Queen’s New Year honours list for 2018. Starr was drummer of the Beatles and also had a successful solo career of his own. He was named under actual name Richard Starkey. Barry Gibb is a song writer, singer and producer who was part of the Bee Gees with his late brothers Maurice and Robin. Meanwhile grime star Wiley has been made an MBE under his actual name Richard Cowie. He is referred to as the godfather of grime. Also 80’s pop star Marc Almond has been made an OBE for his service to music.

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars are being taken to court over their hit song ‘Up Town Funk’. The all-girl rap group the Sequence filed action for unspecified damages as they claim the Ronson/ Mars hit is significantly similar in composition to their own 1979 release ‘Funk You Up’. The 2015 hit ‘Up Town Funk’ has had several claims starting with the Gap Band which was quickly rectified in the credits. Another claim was made by a group called Collage last September.

As 2017 came to close the final chart gave Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ a fourth consecutive week at the No: 1 spot on the UK singles chart. The Christmas week helped the track retain control while his album ‘÷’ meanwhile returned to the top of the UK album chart giving the ginger haired singer another double celebration. He has thus set up a record for topping the UK album chart on seven occasions in a single year.

Christmas hits of the past returned to the UK top 10 singles chart. The Band Aid 20’s version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ at 7 for the first time since it topped the chart in 2004. Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ returned to the UK top 10 singles chart after 55 years. The song climbed up from 14 to No: 9 since its 1962 release when it peaked at No: 6. Another classic ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ by Shakin’ Stevens returned to the top 10 from 15 to No: 10 since it original release in 1985. At the time it topped the UK chart.
