Badminton Nationals from Nov. 1 to 5
View(s):The 65th national badminton championship 2017 organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association is scheduled to be worked off at the Royal College Indoor Stadium from November 1 to 5.
Under the Senior category five events will be worked off in Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.Veterans’ Over 35, Over 40, Over 50 and Over 55 Singles and Doubles events too will be played.
In the Junior category Boys and Girls Singles and Doubles under age groups of Under 13, 15, 17 and 19 is also scheduled to be played.
A total of seven hundred thousand rupees will be in stake to be won by the winners. Rs Sixty five Thousand each will be awarded for the winners of Men’s and Women’s Open events.Over six hundred participants have been registered to compete in this year’s edition so far.
Niluka Karunaratne, sixteen times winner of the Men’s National title and Chandrika De Silva, eleven times winner of the Women’s National title are sure to be in the limelight. A set of young shuttlers in both Men’s and Women’s are sure create upsets over the better fancied reigning champions.
Niluka Karunaratne emerged Men’s champion while young and promising Thilini Hendahewa won the Women’s championship in 2016.
