A Select Committee of Parliament is to be appointed to enable MPs to meet and discuss the Heads of Expenditure of 10 ministries due to time constraints to discuss all ministries during the committee stage of the Budget. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will move the motion to set up the select committee.

The ministries which will be referred to the committee for discussion are Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development, Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, National Co-existence, Dialogue and Official Languages, National Integration and Reconciliation, Buddhasasana, Post, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs, Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs, Special Assignments, Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure and Science and Technology and Research.

The committee will comprise 21 members selected from both the Government and the Opposition. It will present its report to the Parliament on or before the day on which the Committee stage debate on the votes of the selected ministries commences.

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera will present the budget to Parliament on November 9 and the final day for the debate on the Appropriation Bill is December 9.
