MoU with India for Rs 199m upgrade of Thondaman Vocational Training Centre

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India and Sri Lanka on Wednesday (20), (TVTC), Hatton, at an event held at the High Commission of India, Colombo. The MoU was signed by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure & Community Development Ministry Secretary, Mrs R. Nadarasapillai, with the participation of other senior Govt officials.

The TVTC will be upgraded using a grant of Rs 199 million from the Indian Govt. The project includes construction of new infrastructure facilities viz. classrooms, IT lab, auditorium and retaining walls around the complex, as well as renovation of existing buildings, along with supply of machinery, equipment and tools for the new courses, furniture and vehicles.

The TVTC will train a total of 500 youth, annually, as skilled workers suitable for the job market. This project is in line with the Indian Govt’s efforts to assist and cooperate in Vocational Training and Skills Development in Sri Lanka.
