It’s the tail-end of the Rugby season, but the Milo All Island Ten-a-side tournament for the Under Sixteen’s attracted a large number of entries. The outcome was that the SLSRFA was forced to look for two venues to work off the tournament. The Trinity Stadium in Pallekelle and the Digana Provincial Sports Complex were the ultimate choices.

As expected, some of the Kandy schools (Dharmaraja, Kingswood and Vidyartha) were in the fore-front. Vidyartha’s close win over the Josephians was one of the highlights. The Joes had earlier whipped the Matale Thomians by a massive 68-0 margin. The lads from Matale suffered another 0-62 beating at the hands of Vidyartha.

The Peterites overcame all four opponents with ease. Piliyandala Central (also in the same group) was able to prevent Mahanama and Royal Panadura from crossing their line.

Kingswood, whose junior rugby is quite outstanding, had a good win over the Katugastota Anthonians. For good measure, they also won over Maliyadeva quite comfortably.

Wesley were able to keep their line uncrossed against Richmond and Moratu Vidyalaya while running up big scores themselves.

As things stand, Trinity, Royal, Science, Wesley, Dharmaraja, Vidyartha, Kingswood and St. Peter’s should feature in the competition today.
