Anika bags U16 Singles, Doubles to make it five

Top seeded Anika Seneviratne lived up to her expectations as she clinched the girls under 16 singles title with a comfortable two sets to nil against Anjalika Kurera in the three set final played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

Later Anika continued her winning spree when partnered by her sister Alana went on to clinch the girls under 16 doubles title defeating the second seeded pair of Anjalika Kurera and Sathi Silva by two sets to nil in the final which was played in the evening.

Anika who had a successful run at the championships in the process bagged five titles, two in the senior tennis nationals and three in the junior tennis nationals.

On the other hand Anjalika who clinched the girls under 14 singles title was unfortunate as she had play second fiddle in both the finals that she played yesterday.

Anika in the early stages of the championships came out victorious in the women’s open doubles partnered by Jithmie Jayawickrama, the mixed doubles partnered by Thangaraja Dineshkanthan and the girls under 18 singles title with a win over Anya Gunawardena which she won two days ago.

Meanwhile in the wheel chair tennis championship saw the top seeded players clinching the singles and doubles titles with D.M. Gamini overcoming R.A.S.L. Ranaweera while D.S.R. Dharmasena and R.A.S.L. Ranaweera taking the doubles defeating the pair of  D.M. Gamini and H.M.L. Senaratne.
