Golden Jubilee Saints Quadrangular on August 26-27 in Kandy
St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota will host the Golden Jubilee Saints Quadrangular Tournament (SQT) 2017, involving St. Joseph’s (Joes) College, Maradana, St. Peter’s (Petes) College, Bambalapitiya, St. Benedict’s (Bens) College, Kotahena, and host St. Anthony’s, to be worked off on August 26-27 in Kandy.
The inaugural Saints Quadrangular took place in 1963, during the Bens Diamond Jubilee, inviting all schools in the country for a Cricket tournament. Coincidentally, only the above 3 leading Catholic schools participated in the tournament. It was former Antonian cricketer and Colombo Colts Cricket Club stalwart, the late Ranjith Samarasekera, who was instrumental in convincing the 4 schools to continue the tournament as an annual event, thus establishing the SQT.
Originally, the matches were 2-day encounters but, as the years progressed, it was decided to change it to a more exciting limited-over encounter. In 2002, the Organisers introduced a 25-Over tournament for the cricketers over 40 years. Basketball was introduced in 2004 and 7-a-Side Rugby was introduced in 2014.
The glittering Quadrangular Trophy will be for the winners of the 2 Cricket tournaments, and the Rev Fr Joe E. Wickremasinghe Trophy is for the Basketball winners, while a trophy for the Rugby winners will be decided in due course. The Ranjith Samarasekera Memorial Trophy will be presented to the Overall Winners.

Basketball: All matches will be played at Gateway College Courts, Kandy, starting at 8.45 am. on Saturday and Sunday
