PM cleared medically in NY, will attend UN Confab next week
View(s):Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has completed a medical check-up at New York’s Presbyterian University Hospital and will attend next week’s United Nations Oceans Conference.
Results from a three day check-up has cleared him of any doubts and given him a clean bill of health, the Sunday Times was told.
Speaking to the Sunday Times from his New York hotel last morning, the Prime Minister said that he underwent a “head to toe” examination. He said that he spent two nights and three days at the hospital where they also monitored his sleep.
He said that now that he is in New York, he will attend the UN Oceans Conference, a high-level meeting that will discuss freedom of navigation, marine habitats, quality and temperature of sea water and focus on the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals relating to the sustainable use of the oceans. He said he was also billed to speak at the conference.
The medical check-up followed an earlier one in Singapore and is largely cardio (heart) related and also to work and lifestyle, including diet.
The New York hospital over-looking the Hudson River, is billed as one of the top three hospitals in the US and has separate wings for different ailments. “The hospital is nicer than my hotel”, the Premier remarked.
Arrangements are also being made for the Prime Minister to meet with influential members of the Trump Administration during his stay in New York next week.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the UN, Rohan Perera has been elected Vice President for the UN General Assembly sessions in September this year.
