Parents of students in the Western Province (WP) will soon be able to monitor the progress and status of the respective Education zones and schools in their area, online, in a novel programme by the WP Ministry of Education.

“Under this scheme, parents will be able to visit a website and monitor the progress of the programmes of the respective zones and the schools in the area, its extra curricular activities, the number of teachers in the school and the physical resources including buildings, and make inquiries,” said Deputy Director (Planning) of the WP Dept of Education.

The ‘real time monitoring programme’ is aimed at improving the standards of Education in the WP, to be ranked No.1, from its present position of No.2, behind Southern Province. The respective schools will be required to provide updated information on a regular basis to be updated.

Enrolling street children, student concerts, environmental programmes, distribution of vouchers for uniforms and conducting non formal training courses will be available at zonal level.  The site is currently under preparation and will be available on edudept.wp.gov.lk  - Damith Wickremasekara
