State Minister of Agriculture Wasantha Aluvihare was unanimously elected the President of the newly formed Matale District Sports Development Council (MDSDC) at its inaugural meeting held at the State Minister’s office in Aluvihare, Matale.

The new council which is the brain child of MinisterĀ  and was formed by a few enthusiastic and interested veterans of sports from Matale who still stand as landmarks in various sports disciplines.

Perturbed by the drop in the standard of sports in Matale the MDSDC under leadership of its president minister Aluvihare who himself being a sport enthusiast has drawn up plans to implement several programmes to develop and up lift sports in Matale to international standard.

Under this programme new sports will be introduced in addition to the existing sports events. Workshops, coaching camps, inter school and club tournaments will be conducted periodically so as to benefit the sportsmen and women of the district.
