The beautiful village of Sangamankanda on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka is not very well known as a tourist spot either locally or to the International tourist industry.  Measured from Colombo the site is said to be at the widest point.

Despite possessing an ideal location for surfing and a picturesque beach, the beauty spot has failed to attract the attention of those involved in the tourist industry.

An abandoned old  lighthouse adds to the charm of the spot.

With only a few guest houses operating in the area, residents believe the area has great potential to attract tourists if the required facilities are put in place.

The families living in Sangamankanda depend on agriculture and fisheries for a living.

The site is also in close proximity to a number of historical sites and in the vicinity of the Kumana
sanctuary

Agriculture and fisheries are the main occupation of the people in the village
