CBSL says received 37.7 Kg gold from Army

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) on Friday said the total weight of gold from the north, handed over by the Army was 37.7 kg.

The CBSL, further clarifying information provided under a Right to Information request filed by the Sunday Times, said the Army handed over parcels said to contain gold jewellery, on 28 occasions, from September 7, 2010 to January 2012, containing 31.705.34 gm.

Last year the Army handed over another parcel said to contain gold items weighing 6,003.132 gm.

The CBSL said it had not given a valuation of the gold items, but trade sources said the street value of the gold was over Rs 1 billion.
