12 players in Asian Youth Volleyball squad for Myanmar tourney

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) has named 12 players for the Eleventh Asian Youth Boys Volleyball Championships to be held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from March 28 to April 5. The Sri Lanka team will take wing to Myanmar on March 25.

Fourteen Asian countries will take part in the competition. Sri Lanka has been classified into Group C with Japan, Thailand and Uzbekistan. Group A consists of Myanmar, Australia and Hong Kong. Group B: Defending champions Iran, South Korea and Bangladesh. Group D: China, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.

The last edition of the competition took place at the Sugathadasa Stadium in 2014 where Sri Lanka was placed fifth from 15 countries. This is the best result for Sri Lanka in the history of the tournament.

Sri Lanka will play three matches in the first round. On March 28 Sri Lanka will face Thailand. On March 29 Sri Lanka play Japan and on March 30 Sri Lanka will meet Uzbekistan.

Sri Lanka will be led by Nuan Tharaka of St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa.

Jayaratne (Rajasinghe MMV Ruwanwella), Chamod Maleesha Senadhira (St. Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa), Nuwan Tharaka (St. Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa), Pasindu Sandaruwan (Davisamara MV Seeduwa), Yohan Sanuka (Dhamissara MMV Nattandiya), Kavin Thilanka Silva (Maris Stella College Negombo), Sajith Roshan Madubashana Perera (St. Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa), Maleesha Ravishan Jayawardena (Dhamissara MMV Nattandiya) and Dilanka Maduranga (Davisamara MV Seeduwa).
