Lakshina Rodrigo and Vinul Gunawardena cracked half tons but the late order batting failed to make any impression for St Peter’s against Royal on day one in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter played at Bambalapitiya.

Lakshina cracked a 81 that included 11 boundaries while Vinul hit a 73 with 14 boundaries and the duo put on a valuable 127 for the fourth wicket. St Peter’s taking first lease of the wicket made a score of 235 for 9 declared.

Royal in their turn lost their first wicket before they opened scoring. But they ended the day making a bold reply thanks to an unbroken 72 run stand for the second wicket between Ronuka Jayawardena who made an unbeaten 44 and Pasindu Sooriyabandara who remained not out on 27. The match will be continued today.

Kosala Ravindu was unfortunate to miss out on a ton by five runs but his knock enabled Tissa MMV Kalutara batting first to make a formidable score of 293 against S de S. Jayasinghe MMV Dehiwala who was struggling on 109 for 8 in the match played at Kalutara.

Jaffna Central dominated proceedings on day one against Zahira MMV Akurana in the match played at Jaffna. Jaffna Central after bowling out Zahira MMV for 121 ended the day in a strong position of 153 for 6.

Malindu Maduranga shone with a quick fire ton which was his third of the season as Mahanama College Colombo prevailed with a comfortable first inning win over St Benedict’s at Kotahena yesterday.

Malindu slammed a 74 ball knock of 115 which comprised 11 boundaries and five sixes. He also put on a 128 run stand for the fifth wicket with Niduka Welikala. Mahanama batting second ended the day scoring a formidable score of 301 for 6.

An impressive match bag return of 10 for 51 by right arm pacie Ramesh Madusanka paved the way for Revatha MMV Balapitiya to record a convincing ten wicket win against St Mary’s Chilaw in the match concluded at Balapitiya yesterday.

Ramesh who ended with figures of 5 for 36 in the first inning of the Marians ended with impressive figures of 5 for 15 to bundle out St Mary’s batting in their second innings.

Rajasinghe MMV Hanwella coasted to an easy innings and 41 runs win over Sir John Kotalawala MMV Kurunegala in the match which ended at Hanwella yesterday.

The second day’s proceedings saw Rajasinghe MMV in reply to their opponents score of 116 continuing from their overnight score of 164 for 6 going on to make 209.

Sir John Kotalawala MMV batting the second time with the task of erasing a deficit of 93 runs failed to achieve it as they succumbed to the bowling trio Shavinda de Silva, Ranaweera Jayawardena and Udesh Kavinda who shared nine wickets.
