Hameed Al Hussienie (HAH) College Colombo overcame St. Benedict’s College Kotahena 2-1 in the opening match of the Inter-Schools President’s Cup Invitation Football Tournament at the Racecourse ground yesterday. The tournament is being conducted by the Hameed Al Hussienie College Group of 80s. Leading 20 teams from the island are taking part in the contest.

There was a close fight in the first half. At the end of the first session the scores were dead locked at one all. A.J. Mohammed Sajith of HAH scored in the fifth minute. In the 10th minute Nishon Deenu scored the equaliser for the Bens.

In the winning goal was netted in by Fasal Ahmed in the 42nd minute to give HAH victory. Mohammed Amans of HAH was selected as the best player in the game.

Today: St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya meet Zahira College Gampola at 1.00pm; At 3.00pm Zahira College Colombo play against Zahira College Puttalam.

Up to January 12 all quarter-final matches will be played at the City League ground. The semi-finals and the finals will be at the Colombo Racecourse ground.
