Rs. 25,000 traffic fine or court?

The committee appointed to discuss proposed traffic fines will submit its report before the end of the month, a senior official said.
Transport Ministry Secretary Nihal Somaweera said the first meeting was held last Monday, the Senior DIG police, Nandana Munasinghe and several officials of the Finance and Justice ministries attended the discussion.

He said further discussions were needed to be conducted while information and the opinion of the public in this regard also had to be obtained.
Mr. Somaweera said that they have to consider whether the 25,000 fine is to be included under police fines or be made court fines.

After reaching a conclusion by the end of the month the report of the committee will be discussed with the private transport providers associations and be submitted to the President.
