FM to address London audience on Lanka’s ethnic reconciliation efforts

The progress Sri Lanka has made in its efforts at ethnic reconciliation and the measures introduced by President Maithripala Sirisena to achieve this will be discussed at a talk that Foreign Minister Samaraweera is to deliver at Chatham House in London next month.

Chatham House announced that the one-hour address will be on January 11 next year and will be chaired by Jonathan Goodhand, Professor in Conflict and Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) London.

In announcing the event Chatham House said that “two years into his post, the foreign minister of Sri Lanka will outline the reconciliation efforts brought in by President Maithripala Sirisena following the end of 25 years of conflict in the country.”

It said the minister will discuss the key challenges facing the government and how the country is moving forward in its endeavour to create a peaceful, unified, stable and prosperous country.

Meanwhile a Sri Lankan delegation is due to participate in the 62nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference beginning in London today and continuing till December 17.

The delegation is to consist of Selvam Adaikkalanathan MP (TNA),
Seenathamby Yogeswaran MP (TNA), Vijayakala Maheswaran MP (UNP) and HMM Harees MP (SLMC)
Neil Iddawala, Chief of Staff & Deputy Secretary of Parliament is said to be accompanying the Parliamentarians on this visit.
