Cinnamon Grand and SriLankan Airlines declared joint winners

Cinnamon Grand Colombo and Sri Lankan Airlines were declared as joint winners as the final was abandoned due to bad light in the 34th Travel Trade Sports Club Hardball Cricket ‘Sixes’ 2016 concluded at Thurstan College grounds, last Saturday.

11 teams, pooled into 3 groups played 15 matches in the round robin stage, which was curtailed to 4 overs a side.

At the completion of the league stage, Walkers Tours and Cinnamon Red from Group ‘A’, Cinnamon Grand Colombo from Group ‘B’ and Sri Lankan Airlines from Group ‘C’ advanced to the semi-finals.

Debutants, Adhvan Tours and Amja Travels, though losing put up a gutsy performance in the league.

In the semi finals, Sri Lankan Airlines beat the 2015 winner, Cinnamon Red and Cinnamon Grand beat Walkers Tours. As darkness engulfed the ground the final commenced, reduced 3 ball 3 overs (9 balls per side)

Cinnamon Grand, batted first and scored 27 for 2 and Sri Lankan Airlines was 8 for no loss when the umpires decided to call off play.

The 4 special awards went to Nalaka de Zoysa, best bowler and Nuwantha Perera, Best Batsman both from Sri Lankan Airlines and Ishan Jayaratne, highest number of sixes and Man of the Tournament from Cinnamon Grand.
