Rumy Jauffer, former Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, has sent  the following clarification with reference to last week’s Business Times report headlined “Cloud of uncertainty in tourism industry over arrests”.

“It is incorrect, as reported in the article to say I as former managing director has either not made a statement or been arrested,

I would like to state that, I was physically present at the FCID on October 4, 2016, and provided a statement as requested. Thereafter I was arrested on the same date. Subsequently I was produced before the Fort magistrate courts and enlarged on bail by courts.

I must also state that I underwent knee surgery at Nawaloka Hospital and I was under bed rest when I was requested to call over for a statement. The FCID visited the hospital while I was undergoing treatment.”
