India-Lanka military exercises starting tomorrow

‘Mithra Shakthi’, the 4th India-Sri Lanka joint training exercise will start at the Regimental Headquarters of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) tomorrow, Military Spokesperson Roshantha Seneviratne said.

The exercise being held in Sri Lanka for the second time is designed to enhance understanding of transnational terrorism, inter-operability skills, conduct of joint tactical operations and sharing of each other’s experiences, he said.

The Indian contingent of 45 army personnel, including six officers will take part in the two- week long exercise with their local counterparts from the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), the Army said.

Brigadier A.P.I Fernando has been appointed as the Exercise Director of the programme while Colonel G.M.C.K.B. Ekanayake and Colonel K.R.K.K.T. Bandara will function as Deputy Exercise Directors.

The Indian contingent is commanded by Major Rakesh Roushan.

The exercise will be conducted under the close supervision of Army Commander Crishanthe de Silva while a group of Indian officers including Brigadier Sujeeth Shivaji Patil will evaluate the exercise during the final phase of the training before the final day, November 6.

This annual training programme has been held twice in India and once in Sri Lanka at the Commando Regiment Training School in Kuda Oya.
