First innings win for Sri Sumangala Panadura
Janidu Induwara and Nipuna Deshan captured nine wickets between them to help Sri Sumangala College Panadura register an eleven run first innings win over Debarawewa National School in their under 19 division two season opener played at Debarawewa. Invited to bat first on a grassless dusty school ground which was recovering from a carnival held the previous week, Sri Sumangala posted a first innings score of 306 runs. Nipuna Deshan topped the score card with 78 runs while Nadun Abishek (45), Steevan Susa (40), Tharindu Sanjana (38) and Janidu Induwara (30) contributed to the total. Chathura Jayanath toiled under the scorching sun to capture four wickets.
In reply, the home team looked set to grab first innings honours on 293/6 but lost the last four wickets for the addition of two runs to fall short by 11 runs in the first innings. Wicket keeper batsman Shehan Malinda opened his season with a 111 ball 101 and shared a 171 run 5th wicket stand with Chathura Jayanath (76). Opener Ishan Indunil contributed with a 41 ball 57 which comprised of ten boundaries and two sixes but the tail enders threw the game away. Sri Sumangala got in some batting practice in the remaining 51 overs of play and were 258/6 at close. Nadiru Rukshan 52, Pulitha Yasas 69, Nipuna Deshan 73 not out were the top scorers.
