Rasith hogs the limelight
View(s):One drop batsman, Rasith Chalanga from Technomedics and Dinesh Panditharatne from HNB ‘C’ hogged the limelight in the ongoing MCA Division ‘F’ 25-Over League Tournament 2016 continued last weekend.
While all 10 games on Saturday were played in glorious sunshine, all nine matches on Sunday were rained-off without a ball being bowled.
Rasith Chalanga hit a quick fire unbeaten 95 in 54 balls, inclusive of four sixes and a dozen of fours to spearhead Technomedics to a fine 8-wicket win over Tin Pack. Rasith was engaged in a 96 runs stand for the second wicket with opening batsman, Nuwan Nanayakkara, who hit 43.
Opening bowler, Dinesh Panditharatne snapped up five wickets for 15 runs in 5 overs and Hemantha Boteju performed a good double (2 for 12 in 3.2 overs and 40 not out in 30 balls with three towering sixes), as HNB ‘C’ turned tables on South Asia Gateway Terminal, beating them by 3 wickets.
Boteju in at No.6, rescued the Bankers, who were in dire straits at 70-5 with a brave 50-run stand with No.9 batsman, Brian Dharmasena, who remained unbeaten on 15.
All Sunday’s matches were a complete washed out; the nine games billed to be played were: Lion Brewery vs MAC Active ‘C’, CIC vs Janashakthi, HSBC ‘C’ vs Technomedics, Allianz Insurance vs R.R. Donelly, MBSL Insurance vs Coats Thread, Oral Corp. vs Tin Pack, MJF Group vs Trade Finance & Investments, Asia Capital vs United Tractor Group and Akbar Bros vs Bharti Airtel.
The tournament will take a breather this weekend on May 21 and 22 for Vesak and will get back on track during the weekend of May 28 and 29 with a card of 16 matches.
