Rain washes out CRIB Sixes final
View(s):Rain completely washed out the second and final day’s play of the 4th Governor’s Trophy –CRIB Cricket ‘Sixes 2015/16′ at the P. Sara Oval.
The tournament commenced with glorious sunshine with the participation of 68 men’s teams and 36 women’s teams, matches conducted simultaneously on four pitches.
At the completion of the:1st day’s play the following eight teams advanced to the quarter-finals in the Women’s tournament: Siyapatha Finance, Union Bank, Seylan Bank, Alliance Finance, Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank, HNB and State Mortgage and Investment Bank (2014 runner-up).
The 2015 women’s winner, Central Bank of Sri Lanka was beaten by Siyapatha Finance in the pre-quarter-finals.
14 teams have advanced to the pre-quarter final stage, in the Men’s tournament; LOLC Micro, Peoples Leasing, HNB Grameen, Arpico Finance, Sanasa Development (from the top half) and Muslim Commercial Bank, Bank of Ceylon, Mercantile Investments, Central Finance, Vallibel Finance, Sarvodaya Development Bank, Singer Finance and Commercial Credit & Finance (2014 runners-up) (from the bottom half)
The remaining two qualifiers for the pre-quarter finals will be known after the matches between Nations Trust Bank (2014 winner) vs. Asia Asset Finance and Commercial Bank Vs. LOLC are completed.
A glittering opening ceremonytook place with the patronage of the Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Arjuna Mahendren, Secretary General, Banks Association, Upali de Silva and Director/General Manager, CRIB, Gamini Karunaratne.
The tournament was indefinitely postponed and will be continued from where it stopped on the new date at the same venue. – L.R.
