24 athletes leave for Vietnam Asian Junior Meet
View(s):The 24 member Sri Lanka Junior Athletics team for the 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championships to be held in Ho Chi Ming, Vietnam from June 2 to 6 will take wing on
May 30.
There are 17 boys and seven girls in the team. The team was selected after the 54th Junior Nationals Athletics Championships held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex in Diyagama.
The Asian Athletics Association is conducting the Vietnam meet and 42 Asian countries are taking part featuring over 1000 athletes. The skipper of the Sri Lanka team has not been named as yet. The Team Manager is Lal Chandrakumara. Five coaches will accompany the team.
At the last meet held in Chinese Taipei in 2014, Sri Lanka won two silvers and a bronze medal.
In the history of the Asian Junior Athletics Championships Sri Lanka has won four gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals in total.
